Editors and Preditors

Keep an eye out for a ten page ink review/semi-tutorial coming out later today. I’m finishing up the formatting right now. But in the meantime . . .

I just wanted to say real quick that I’m enjoying working with DC. This is my first time working with an established comics company, and the experience so far has been drastically different from my experiences at Tokyopop, Harper Collins, St. Martin’s Press or any other book or manga publishers that I’ve brushed knuckles with in the past. And it’s been like that from day one. I feel well . . . respected and acknowledged. It’s a nice feeling.

And no empty promises. THAT I appreciate the most.

For some reason I thought Tokyopop was one of DC’s many many many imprints. Still, glad you like it there. Most of my favorite writers do a lot of work for their Vertigo line.

    O_o I WISH.

No, Tokyopop is their own company, headed by the ah . . . I’m not even going to deign to mention the owner’s name out of rejection of increasing his name hits. Though I have all sorts of other names I could certainly use in its place . . .

If I may be so nosy as to ask, what are you working on with DC? Are you pencilling? Inking? Colouring?

*imagines Rivkah drawing ye old muscly men of Spandex*
    *giggles*

Working for DC is AWESOME. The system they have set up is so straightforward, and they pay on time like nobody’s business!

    *le gasp* DC?!

If you see Grant Morrison, get me a lock of his hair.

And if you hear anything–ANYTHING– about the Brain and Monsieur Mallah from Teen Titans/Doom Patrol, lemme know.

    Good lawd, and insider!

HAHAHAHAH! That’d just be awesome. XD

But no, I’m just toning for now. I can’t say what I’m actually working on (I don’t mind honoring my non disclosure agreement with them), but it has enabled me to both make a living at something I enjoy while giving me time to start work on personal projects and more free time to experiment. :)

    PFffft! LOL! Cute! :D

Funny how I may talk all about my own work here, I won’t gossip about other people’s work or business, so I wouldn’t necessarily consider myself an “insider”. And as long as my publisher honors my end of the agreement, I honor my end of the non-disclosure agreement, as well.

    But I will make sure to ask for permission to post samples and thoughts and such when I feel it’s appropriate. I’ve a toning tutorial wrapped up in this project that just . . . keeps on adding pages. ;_;

Get paid quickly and on time is the best thing. It really ensures I keep on working and erases the necessity for side bill-paying work completely. Which I’m sure makes them happy as well.

Great news, Rivkah! Glad to hear you’re getting appropriately compensated for your talents…

Awesome news! Congratulations! I am so glad to hear they pay up and on time – that takes so much stress of the ol’ survival thing, which leads (IMHO) to better art.
May I ask how long a contract you have with them?

I am looking forward to your tutorial – I have really enjoyed the ink-work you’ve been posting, and I appreciate the notes on your experimental process. Thanks!

Okay, but if you hear rumors about them taking offers for Brain and Mallah, I want in!

  12. iconotrast  •  Apr 8, 2009 @11:53 pm

And any news on what I sent your way?
Just curious as I had no idea what it was myself.

I’ll send you an email in a bit and let you know. :)
